01/06/2008 - Press Release: News update regarding 'Urgent sale from art to raise emergency funds for China's earthquake recovery'
The Chinese artist He Hong Wei generously offered 5 paintings from his powerful and poignant series created at the time of the Asian SARS epidemic to raise emergency funds for the earthquake disaster in China. Peter Quintana's Gallery Oc-Eo Art has kindly hosted this initiative. We are very pleased to confirm that works were purchased for the eclectic Azam Collection in London. The SARS series was intended to be loaned to Oc-Eo Art for their forthcoming 'Hometown' exhibition opening July 1st, however the scale of this disaster and the suffering of those people affected prompted the artist into giving his work. He Hong Wei's paintings were an artistic and personal response to the SARS virus, yet these works also appropriately echo the distress felt in this current crisis following the earthquake. This series has won accolades in Beijing and his talent as a contemporary Chinese artist has been widely acknowledged. He Hong Wei paints passionately and with integrity producing striking and memorable works with bold painterly gestures. This has been a genuine effort to raise funds for the appeal and 100% of the sale will be donated to the cause. The plan is to contribute the money to a fund being raised by the Songzhuang Artists Association (of which He Hong Wei is a member) to build a much-needed new school in the affected area. Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who responded to this appeal and in particular the artist. To view the works recently acquired for the Azam Collection please visit http://www.oceo.com/artistprofile.asp? ArtistID=86 To view the Azam Collection, please go to www.azam.com

15/05/2008 - Sale from Art to raise emergency funds for China's Earthquake recovery
Chinese artist He Hong Wei has offered for sale 5 paintings from his prized SARS series, made at the time of the Asian SARS epidemic. This is solely to raise much needed emergency funds and 100% of sales will be donated. In a desperate bid to his UK based dealer, Peter Quintana of Oc-Eo Art, He Hong Wei requested his help in selling part of the series which was originally offered on loan only for Oc-ec Art's forthcoming 'Hometown' exhibition. However, the exhibition is not until July and emergency funds are need much sooner. These paintings are solely to raise funds and 100% of the sale will go directly to the Chinese appeal. Although they document a different tragedy, they are a highly emotional and appropriate statement at this time too. He Hong Wei has won accolades for them in Beijing, and was not intending to sell them as they have such personal significance to him. He is one of China's new contemporary artists and paints with exuberance and passion; rich in colour and firm lines coverage, blend and flow, coming together in a pattern of life that is entirely his own. Please help us support this worthy cause by raising the profile of these important pieces of original fine art from China. This is not in any way a PR exercise, just a genuine plea for assistance. If you have display space or contacts interested in Chinese art, please get in touch. For further information please email Peter Quintana direct on peter.quintana@oc-eo.com or contact Julie Badrick tel 07941271244 julie@fineartpromotions.com.
